Day 2

Day 2- March 17. Happy St. Patty's Day! (Even though I don't like the holiday and think it's overrated. I didn't even wear any green.)

What I ate-

Breakfast: I had some smoothie left over from the night before that I had stuck in the fridge. I blended it up with some more ice and spinach. I had that along with a mini whole wheat bagel with cinnamon/sugar (Splenda). Also took a multi-vitamin and a fish oil.

Lunch: I slept in a little later than normal, so I got to work around lunch time. I'd just had breakfast a couple hours earlier, so I wasn't very hungry yet. I had a snack of carrot sticks, a low fat string cheese stick, and a peach.

Snack: Around 2:30 I had a veggie chicken patty, a banana, and a Hershey's kiss.

Dinner: I had class after work, so I didn't leave enough time to eat dinner. I had a mini whole wheat bagel with some sliced cheese on top after class, around 8pm. I was a little mad at myself for eating that late, but I was starving!

I didn't mention this yesterday, but I drink water all day, unless I say otherwise.

Exercise-

I didn't exercise today because of class. I usually work out every other day so today was a day off anyways. I'll be back at it again tomorrow. It's supposed to be 65 and sunny!

Day 1

In the beginning of February, I suddenly got motivated to get in shape. I had heard great things about the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred DVD and I decided to purchase it from Meijer for $9.99 or something like that. It was money well spent. I've done the workout (25 minute sessions, but very intense and hard) 15 times since Feb. 4th, so about three times a week. I noticed that I have more endurance and can finally move up a level and finish the whole thing without passing out. Although I feel much stronger, I still don't feel like I'm in great shape. I haven't been eating as well as I should. My original goal was to do that particular workout 5 times a week between Feb 4, and my birthday on May 29. Now, I'm feeling like I should mix the routine up a little bit, and work on my eating habits as well, in order to get into the best shape of my life, by my 22nd birthday. So, I am keeping a log of my exercise and eating progress, so that I can document everything and have some accountability also. This whole thing officially started yesterday:

March 16, 2010

What I ate-

Breakfast: Took multi-vitamins before work. Had a cup of oatmeal at work and a cup of green tea. I also had a banana.

Snack: Had some leftover stir fry - chicken, celery, carrots, sweet potatoes, spinach, garlic, with sauce that I made with random stuff in the fridge.

Lunch: A drug rep brought pizza for us. I skipped that and instead had greek salad and a small cheesy breadstick. I also had a Hershey's kiss, because I crave chocolate after every meal. Did you know one of those things has 25 calories and almost 2 grams of fat?! BAD!

Snack: Apple with peanut butter, another even smaller cheesy breadstick. I ate this right before heading home from work, cause I was going to run when I got home.

Dinner: Smoothie with pineapple, raspberries, protein powder, spinach, and fruit juice.

After dinner, I was craving junk food, so I made chocolate covered pretzles. Then things got real out of control and I ate some Doritos and drank a wine cooler thingy while Jon and I watched TV.

Work out-

Jon and I walked/jogged a mile after work. I thought I was going to die. I haven't ran in a really long time, and I could definitely tell.

I also did a work out that I found online. This lady named Tracy Anderson (who trains Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow) does these workouts that supposedly tone your muscles without making them big. I read a lot about it first, and a lot of people think she's bogus and that it's a big hoax, but then other people said that they saw results. It's all pretty simple stuff...different variations of leg lifts and arm lifts and crunches.
Before you judge me, let me just say, it was really tough! She says to do lots and lots of reps of each move...like, 80-100. The first time trying it, doing 20 reps of each exercise was pushing it. And today, I am more sore than I have been in a long time. But it's a good sore. I feel muscles that I didn't know could get sore.

So there you have it. Day 1. Besides the splurging on junk food at night, I think I did fairly well. 72 days to go.
